Learning and Growing Together

Maths at Shipton Bellinger Primary School

Welcome to the Maths page of our school website. This is the place to come and find out more information about how we teach your child maths skills and knowledge.

You will be able to find curriculum information, helpful links, homework support and our Maths policies.

We believe passionately that all children can be successful in maths and by following small steps in learning it is accessible to all. We have adopted a Mastery Approach and have adopted the White Rose Scheme to guide our practice. Children use hands-on resources to support their learning alongside visual representations, for example number lines or the part-port-whole model.

For children to be successful in maths reasoning and problem solving, fluency in maths is essential. Children should be able to count and recall key number facts in line with age-related expectations. Therefore every maths lesson begins with fluency as well as embedding skills through homework. From Year 1 to Year 4, Maths Passports assess and record your child's fluency journey.

All children from Year 1 to Year 6 have paid subscriptions to Times Table Rockstars or Numbots. These are excellent resources for practising fluency skills, such as times tables, and embedding new maths learning in class.

As always, please get in contact with us if you have any questions or would like more information about your child's maths journey here at Shipton Bellinger.

Making maths more than the classroom

A deep understanding of place value is key to our children's maths learning. Take a look at how our children have been showing off their place value knowledge creatively at home!
